Stubby’s Pizza is a local small business pizzeria founded by a man named Stubby in 1996. As for many small businesses, keeping the doors open for more than five years is a major accomplishment, but sustaining that success is even harder. In 2019, Stubby’s Pizza was permanently closed. Stubby’s lacked investment funding and the ability to connect to a larger customer base outside of the local area.

The objective was to develop a logo and branding assets to help revive and transform the pizzeria into a profitable business for customers to enjoy eating at once again.

For this concept project, I set some design parameters to give myself more of a challenge and realistic collaboration process between designer and client. The logo redesign needed to feature similar design elements from the original logo, such as shape, color, and pizza imagery, to create a connection and sense of familiarity for the owners and customers. Stubby’s Pizza desires to create a fun environment, a lighthearted tone, and a friendly relationship with its customers. These values led to a playful pizza vector pattern, hand-drawn type, and the addition of the smiling face from the original logo. The finished logo is accompanied by a variety of brand uses, coming together to create the renewed Stubby’s Pizza.
